All data providers withtin PlanktonNet data network are powered by "biodivDP", a customizable software for inputing and managing PlanktonNet records developed by AquaEcology.

The OAI backbone of the PlanktonNet data network is built upon the OAI and repository technology expertise from the Computing and Data Center of Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI-IT).  AWI-IT has developed an (a) OAI-PMH module to "biodivDP" and a (b) GUI user interface for the portal framework.(service provider)
