The OAI  framework behind PlanktonNet is comprised of:

• Several networked OAI-PMH compliant data providers (=nodes) where plankton taxonomy, imagery and contextual information are archived and displayed.  The software "biodivDP" was developed specifically for PlanktonNet in the framework of data ingestion and management.  "biodivDP" also offers several useful tools and a glossary.  (read more on how to become a data provider). To date, the following PlanktonNet nodes are available:

2. PlanktonNet @ Lisbon
3. PlanktonNet @ Roscoff

4. PlanktonNet @ Israel

• An  OAI service provider which daily harvests and archives all the metadata found in the registered data providers listed above.
